MINING
Angola is ranked among the top 20 exporters of diamonds in the world according to data provided by the International Trade Centre. In Africa, Angola is the fourth biggest exporter of diamonds, behind Botswana, South Africa and Namibia. In 2014, the African country exported nearly US$ 810 million in diamonds.
The exploration of diamonds in Angola is mainly centered in the provinces of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul, both located in the northeast of the country. However, as stated by the government, the knowledge of mining resources in Angola, diamonds included, is still very incipient - only 40% of the country's territory would have been object of geological studies so far.
